The Problem

Rural communities are digitally underserved

Only 65% of rural residents have high-speed internet access compared to 97% in urban areas. University extension programs that provide critical services struggle to reach the people who need them most.

CONNECTIVITY

Access Barriers

Desktop portals require stable internet that 35% of rural residents don't have.

35% disconnected
USABILITY

Complex Interfaces

University websites exclude older adults and users with low digital literacy.

High barrier to entry
EFFICIENCY

Manual Processes

Phone and email scheduling creates delays and significant administrative burden.

Resource heavy
INSIGHT

No Visibility

Programs can't demonstrate impact without integrated engagement analytics.

Data silos

Competitive Advantage

Why not just use existing tools?

We hear this question often. The answer is simple: generic tools weren't built for rural, offline-first, mobile-native use cases. CSU Mobile was.

CONNECTIVITY

vs Desktop Portal

University websites require stable internet and desktop access. CSU Mobile works 100% offline and is optimized for smartphones that rural residents already own.

USABILITY

vs Learning Management (LMS)

Canvas and Blackboard are designed for students, not community members. They require high bandwidth and aren't built for field-based appointments.

OFFLINE CAPABILITY

vs Responsive Websites

Mobile-responsive sites still need data to load. Our platform caches programs and resources locally, integrating with native device features seamlessly.

AUTOMATION

vs Manual Scheduling

Email and phone scheduling is time-consuming and error-prone. We automatically route requests, generate Teams meetings, and send calendar invites.

How It Works

From discovery to engagement in seven steps

The complete journey from a rural resident downloading the app to attending a virtual meeting with an extension educator—all designed to work seamlessly with intermittent connectivity.

01
ONBOARDING

Download & Setup

User downloads the app from the App Store or Google Play, creates an account with their email or phone number, and selects their preferred language (English or Spanish).

Works offline after initial download—no internet required for setup

02
EXPLORATION

Browse Programs

User browses featured programs on the home screen, filters by category like Agriculture or Health, searches by keyword, and reads details about upcoming workshops and events.

Program catalog cached locally, refreshes automatically when online

03
ENROLLMENT

Register for Program

User taps 'Register' and is redirected to the university's program registration system via deep link. After completing registration, they return to the app and the program is automatically added to 'My Stuff.'

Direct integration eliminates duplicate data entry

04
KNOWLEDGE

Download Resources

User explores the resource library, downloads PDFs about soil health or nutrition, watches instructional YouTube videos, and bookmarks favorites for easy access later.

Downloaded content available completely offline

05
ASSISTANCE

Request Appointment

User navigates to 'Request Appointment,' selects a topic area, provides availability preferences, and submits the request. The system automatically routes it to the appropriate county educator based on location.

Requests queued offline, submitted when connection restored

06
CONNECTION

Schedule & Attend Meeting

Educator reviews the request, proposes 2-3 time slots, and user selects their preference. The system automatically generates a Teams meeting link and sends calendar invites. User receives 24-hour and 1-hour reminders.

Calendar invites automatically add to Outlook or Google Calendar
